(LA)HORDE

Founded in 2013, the collective (LA)HORDE is composed of three multidisciplinary artists: Marine Brutti, Jonathan Debrouwer and Arthur Harel. Their dance practice unfolds through choreographic works, films, performances and installations.

From the outset, (LA)HORDE has worked with communities existing on the margins of mainstream culture – the septuagenarians of Void Island (2014), visually impaired individuals in Night Owl (2016), jumpstyle dancers in To Da Bone (2017), and Georgian dancers from the Iveroni Ballet in Marry Me In Bassiani (2019). Through these collaborations, they explore the political dimension of dance, mapping choreographic forms of uprising, whether collective or individual.

Since 2019, (LA)HORDE has been directing the Ballet national de Marseille (CCN). In 2020, they created Room With A View with electronic artist Rone, their first choreographic work with the company.

As part of their direction of the Ballet, they curate mixed programmes, inviting various artists to create or restage works for the company. In 2021, CCLD brought together Lucinda Childs, Tânia Carvalho, Lasseindra Ninja and Oona Doherty. In 2022, Roommates featured six short works by Lucinda Childs, Claude Brumachon and Benjamin Lamarche, Peeping Tom, Cecilia Bengolea and François Chaignaud, and (LA)HORDE.

That same year, they presented the choreographic exhibition We Should Have Never Walked on the Moon at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes, the Théâtre de Chaillot, and more recently at Southbank Centre in London. The project proposed a new way of occupying performance spaces, expanding choreography across an entire building and blending transparency with backstage aesthetics.

In 2023, Age of Content, their second choreographic work with the Ballet national de Marseille, explored the relationship between bodies and the overwhelming flow of digital content and media sources. In 2024, they choreographed I Want Absolute Beauty, directed by Ivo Van Hove and featuring Sandra Hüller, based on the repertoire of PJ Harvey.

(LA)HORDE also creates films, including Novaciéries (2015), Cloud Chasers (2016), The Master’s Tools (2017), Cultes (2019), Room With A View (2020), Ghosts (2021), Download and Run Zoom: Lucinda Childs Meets (LA)HORDE – Building Momentum Under Lockdown (2021), How to Work? (2025), and Deep Stream (2025).

The collective has also developed a strong presence in the field of contemporary art. Their solo show at the Julia Stoschek Foundation in Berlin, as well as their exhibition Heureux sous son ombre at the Bass Museum of Art in Miami (October 2024 – April 2025), highlight their transdisciplinary approach, combining sculpture, installation, film and performance. Their films have recently been presented at MoMA, New York, and are part of the collection of the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris.

In 2025, their performance project Deep Stream, created in collaboration with the Louvre Museum and the Ballet national de Marseille, was presented at the Louvre in January 2025. It marks a new step in their exploration of transgressive performative forms within institutional spaces.

Their major choreographic works tour internationally (Skirball and BAM in New York, Southbank Centre in London, Seoul Performing Arts Festival, Taipei Performing Arts Center, Kyoto Art Centre, Danse Danse Montréal, Dance House Helsinki, among others).
