WE SHOULD HAVE NEVER WALKED ON THE MOON is a choreographed exhibition that breaks down the barriers between the museum’s white cube and the black box of the dance stage. By blending the language of musical theatre and action cinema with that of choreographic avant-garde, (LA)HORDE celebrates what might seem like an unlikely union between entertainment culture and the more ritualistic tradition of modernism.
The exhibition and its performances question the influence of dominant American culture, the standards of beauty it produces, and the ways of moving it shapes. How do certain gestures become forces of homogenization? And what bodily counter-narratives are created in response by individuals? WE SHOULD HAVE NEVER WALKED ON THE MOON subtly explores this embodied relationship to politics, where the body becomes a carrier of ideas.
Within this choreographed exhibition, stunts are reenacted, social events are simulated, the boundaries between exhibition spaces and dance studios are blurred, and the position of each spectator is put to the test. Performances intertwine with installations and videos, all unfolding in continuity and reflecting one another, creating a journey that is at once chaotic and structured.
