Cecilia Bengolea

Born in Buenos Aires, Cecilia Bengolea trained in urban dance and studied anthropological dance with Eugenio Barba before studying philosophy and art history in her hometown. In 2001, she moved to Paris and trained at Ex.e.r.c.e. in Montpellier, directed by Mathilde Monnier. She is best known for her collaboration with dancer and choreographer François Chaignaud in their company Vlovajob Pru, founded in 2007.

Ten years later, Cecilia Bengolea co-directed two short films in dialogue with Lévi-Strauss's work Tristes Tropiques: La Beauté (tôt) vouée à se défaire with Donatien Veismann and Cri de Pilaga with Juliette Bineau. She collaborates with artists Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, Monika Gintersdorfer, Knut Klassen, and dancehall artists Damion BG Dancerz and Joan Mendy. In the spring of 2018, Cecilia Bengolea created Insect Train with Florentina Holzinger, a collaborative piece dedicated to the interface between nature and the artifice of the human body.

In 2022, Cecilia Bengolea joined forces with the Ballet National de Marseille to present her piece GRIME BALLET (DANSER PARCE QU’ON NE PEUT PAS PARLER AUX ANIMAUX), created with choreographer François Chaignaud and presented as part of the shared program ROOMMATES.
