Cultes

Symbols of counterculture and anti-capitalism, festivals have gradually taken on the form of a cultural industry. Can one still experience something spiritual within these new sanctuaries of consumption? Are spectators still able to create their own subversive experiences as individuals forming a collective mass? With CULTES, a hallucinatory journey into the heart of a crowd a community of bodies bound together by their love of music (LA)HORDE explores the manifestation of cult, its practices, and its ritualized performances.

These questions drove the collective throughout the filming process. Scanning the crowd with their cameras, they capture the singular grace of collective gathering. Unexpected suspended moments shift the work between disenchanted paganism and animal spirituality, jubilation and unease, ecstasy and descent, disillusionment and light.


The final project brings together a film and a performance, exploring a choreographic vocabulary that draws from mass gatherings a messianic aesthetic poised between vice and grace.
