João studied classical ballet and contemporary dance at CEFAR - Palácio das Artes, in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. In 2011, he joined the Ballet Jovem Palácio das Artes. In 2013, he participates in "Viva, Vive!", a collaborative performance co-created by Black Box Dance Company and Ballet Jovem in Denmark, under the direction of Marie Brolin-Tani. In 2014, João joined Baltic Dance Theatre where he had the opportunity to work with Jiří Kylián and Patrick Delcroix. Between 2016 and 2018 he collaborates with ŻfinMalta and performs pieces by Iván Perez, José Agudo and Mavin Khoo. He then travels to the UK and takes part in the international tour of Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake until 2019. The following year, he was recruited by the Scottish Dance Theater under the artistic direction of Joan Clevillé.

João joined the Ballet National de Marseille in May 2022.
