Eric Minh Cuong Castaing 2016-2019

Associate artist at the BNM from 2016 to 2019

Eric Minh Cuong Castaing has been selected to be associate artist at the BNM from 2016 to 2019. Continuing the research undertaken by Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten, the choreographer and animator questions “the body in revolt” in a modern context where image and augmented reality make a considerable impression.

Within Shonen, the company he set up in 2011, he brings dance into contact with new technologies, humanoid robots and bodies in situ in socius in pieces such as Kaiju (2011), lil’Dragon (2013) and School of Moon (2016), in parallel with his work with children who have mental or motor disorders (L’Âge d’or).

With Phœnix, his latest spatial choreography that brings together four dancers and robotic drones, Eric Minh Cuong Castaing questions the panoptic eye of the drone, evoking the remote-controlled planes of our childhood as much as the killing machines of wars today.
