Rachid Ouramdane
Rachid Ouramdane, 52, was born in Nîmes. His parents fled the Algerian War. He grew up in a large family, in public housing, with a father who had survived torture. He discovered hip-hop when he was 12. As a young adult, he abandoned his biology studies to devote himself to dance. Throughout his career as a performer and choreographer, he has intertwined biographical elements, aesthetic reflections, and social concerns. From Annecy to Grenoble, via Paris, New York, London, Rio de Janeiro, Tokyo, and beyond, he strives to blend worlds, hybridize experiences, and draw on non-conforming bodies and talents that are not usually sought after.
A dancer and choreographer, he is the director of Chaillot – Théâtre National de la Danse and has also chaired the Culture Committee of the Fondation de France since 2022.
