Michèle Noiret
Born in Brussels in 1960, Michèle Noiret is a Belgian contemporary dance choreographer. In 1976, she enrolled at Maurice Béjart's Mudra school, where she studied for three years. In 1977, she met Karlheinz Stockhausen, who told her about a solo dance project integrated into his music.
In 1981, Michèle Noiret met Pierre Droulers, with whom she worked on several projects, notably La Jetée (1983). A year later, she set off to explore the New York scene, where she was struck by her encounter with the dancers of Trisha Brown's company and “contact dance.” Back in Belgium, she founded her own company in 1986, creating and performing the solo La Crevêche, and a duet of the same name with Jean-Christian Chalon.
Her work draws on a variety of choreographic and theatrical techniques. She has created nearly forty choreographies, including commissions for the Paris Opera Ballet, the Ballet de Nancy, and the Ballet National de Marseille.
An associate artist at the Théâtre Les Tanneurs from 2000 to 2006 and at the Théâtre National de la Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles from 2006 to 2017, and regularly supported by the Théâtre National de Chaillot in Paris, her Brussels-based company is now independent. It is subsidized by the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles, Service de la Danse.
Michèle Noiret is a member of the Royal Academy of Belgium.
