Emanuel Gat

Emanuel Gat was born in Israel in 1969. A former athlete, he studied music at the Rubin Academy of Music to become a conductor and only discovered dance at the age of 23, after his military service, during a workshop led by Israeli choreographer Nir Ben Gal. A few months later, he joined the Liat Dror Nir Ben Gal Company, with which he toured internationally. He began working as an independent choreographer in 1994. He founded his company, Emanuel Gat Dance, at the Suzanne Dellal Center in Tel Aviv in 2004 and has since created a rich repertoire.

His first successful choreographies date back to the early 2000s, but he gained particular recognition with the creation of his Sacre du printemps and Voyage d'hiver, which won a Bessie Award in 2006. His work is closely linked to music, for which he uses a choreographic language inherited from post-modern dance and the study of pure movement.

In 2013, Emanuel Gat was named associate artist at the Montpellier Dance Festival, where he created The Goldlandbergs and Corner Etudes, and presented his first work as a photographer. In 2014, he created Plage Romantique, and in 2016, SUNNY, in collaboration with musician Awir Leon.

In 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, he created LOVETRAIN2020, a work for 14 dancers set to music by Tears For Fears. The premiere of the piece took place between two lockdowns in early October.
