Former associate artist at Nanterre-Amandiers and Théâtre National de Bretagne, Théo Mercier has just been appointed associate artist of the Ballet National de Marseille for the next three years. Under the leadership of (LA)HORDE, he succeeds Maryam Kaba and Alice Gavin in this role.

BNM RADIO met him in our studios to discuss this new collaboration.

An artist whose multifaceted practice lies at the intersection of visual arts and live performance, he reflects on his artistic journey. His aesthetic also embraces hybridity, bringing together different genres, different temporalities, and different perspectives.

For the past few years, he has been challenging conventional economic models by developing a new production method: the practice of borrowing. Every performance or exhibition presented internationally relies solely on materials sourced locally and ultimately returned.

His next project, set to premiere in 2027, will be an inhabited exhibition, with its first presentations taking place in Paris and Marseille.
