Long Play (LP)

Dance as an altered state of consciousness has driven Alexandre Roccoli’s work from his early choreographies for Berlin’s Berghain club to his most recent pieces in Southern Italy. With LONG PLAY (LP), Roccoli embarks on a precise line of research that extends into psychoacoustics and therapeutic practices.

He co-writes this project with his long-time collaborator, dancer Vera Gorbatcheva, alongside two figures from the electronic music scene: writer Jean-Yves Leloup, an enthusiast of ambient music, and Egyptian composer Adam Shaalan, founder of the techno label Hizz in Cairo, deeply influenced by Sufi trance. Shaalan has composed a soundtrack of subtle variations, built upon the breathing rhythms of the dancers of the Ballet national de Marseille, guiding them into an incandescent hardcore techno trance.

“This sonic and choreographic project is conceived not as a party, but rather as a space for care one that tends to and heals certain wounds. The score of this work seeks to engage a process in which sound and its frequencies but also its textures can deepen the perception and experience of the audience/visitor.”
