Latifa Laâbissi

Latifa Laâbissi – Danses tordues and Prodigies (Studio Residency 2024)

Danses tordues and Prodigies is “a montage of dance and speech,” both a lecture and a performance. Latifa Laâbissi disrupts the vertical codes of the lecture format, introducing digressions and lending her body to those who have influenced her. “The heterogeneity of sources and the blending of registers are integral to my work,” says the artist, who draws equally from American abstract choreography particularly that of Merce Cunningham, from whom she descends as well as from art history, performance, and the new hybrid relationships she creates between dance revue, stand-up, humor, and satire.
