Hot Bodies aka Gérald Arev Kurdian – Transition Pieces (Studio Residency 2024)

Transition Pieces is a compositional cycle initiated by Gérald Arev Kurdian in 2024, through which they explore how their MtoF transition might foster alternative approaches to their singing voice, movement, instrumental practice (electric bass, pedals, keyboards, etc.), and new audio technologies (AI, sound morphing, etc.), in order to share a sonic and performative experience of fluidity, introspection, and instability.

Its first iteration, Chant I: River Goddesses, Metaverse and Hormonal Nymphs, brings together a collection of short musical and choreographic pieces in the form of a post-internet oratorio for a vocalist and a choir of eight vocal clones.

Drawing on Western and Middle Eastern folk traditions, as well as texts such as Ovid’s Metamorphoses and feminist science fiction, Chant I: River Goddesses, Metaverse and Hormonal Nymphs is conceived as a sung and digital fabulation of the transformations experienced by contemporary societies and bodies mirroring a civilization in transition.
