Shot 90 days before the world premiere of Age of Content, this documentary follows Arthur, Marine, and Jonathan, the trio behind the collective (LA)HORDE and directors of the Ballet national de Marseille and the dancers as they prepare their new creation, alongside the revival of their previous work, Room With a View, at the Vieux-Port. As the city erupts during the riots of summer 2023, current events take on an unexpected resonance with the spirit of revolt at the heart of their work.
Since taking over the Ballet national de Marseille (BNM) in 2019, and following the global success of their first piece with the company, Room With a View, Arthur, Marine, and Jonathan better known as the collective (LA)HORDE along with their dancers, have emerged as leading figures of contemporary French dance. Despite criticism, their queer and rebellious message, combined with a highly crafted aesthetic, continues to fill venues year after year. As they begin their second term at the helm of the BNM, the three artists must simultaneously prepare their next major work, Age of Content, and stage an exceptional revival of Room With a View at Marseille’s Vieux-Port.
(LA)HORDE, Révolte à Marseille follows them through the creation process, as they put their reputation on the line while current events echo their earlier work and Marseille is shaken by the riots of summer 2023 giving their message an unexpected urgency and their performance the appearance of a true insurrection.
