Dalila Belaza – Figures (Studio Residency 2022)

Following Au cœur, where different heritages and dances enter into dialogue, Dalila Belaza seeks here to construct a kind of traditional dance that does not exist without culture, origin, or territory: a ritual without a past, rooted in the present, yet carrying a symbolic dimension that evokes no known or identifiable references. Allowing space for the emergence of impersonal narratives grounded in an imagined ceremony, the piece unfolds as a metaphorical journey inviting both movement and surrender. Figures is a deterritorialized work that brings an inner world outward.

In Figures, Dalila Belaza engages with the mechanics of darkness, both through the materiality of the costumes and the use of lighting, turning the body into a presence capable of embodying a multitude of possibilities.
