D̶A̶R̶K̶MATTER - Cherish Menzo (Studio Residency 2022)

Drawing on posthumanism, Afrofuturism, and astronomy, Cherish Menzo explores how dark matter and black holes collide and converge to give rise to a new, futuristic, and enigmatic body.

In DARKMATTER, the duo Cherish Menzo and Camilo Mejía Cortés seek ways to detach their bodies — and the reality in which they exist — from the biased perceptions and imposed narratives that shape them. Applying the “chopped and screwed” method to choreographic language, they experiment with rhythmic distortions on the performing body, accompanied by the alienated rap hymns of the Distorted Rap Choir.

DARKMATTER generates a complete upheaval of our atoms, in search of new perspectives and new forms for both the body and the external world to which it is bound.
