Cassiel Gaube – Study Evening (Studio Residency 2020)

A graduate of P.A.R.T.S., the school founded by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Cassiel Gaube develops his choreographic work at the intersection of contemporary dance and street and clubbing dances.

With Study Evening, Cassiel Gaube deepens the research initiated in his previous solo Farmer Train Swirl – Étude, creating a trio that explores the rich vocabulary of House Dance through a series of studies.

In musical terms, a “study” is a composition designed to explore and experiment with the possibilities of a specific technique much like the practice of House Dance itself. Drawing on known movements, the dancer seeks variations and inventive ways of articulating them. This shared knowledge enables dancers to read one another’s movement.

Together with Yonas Perou a Paris-based dancer experienced in street dance and Federica Miani, Cassiel seeks to reveal both the reading required and the one produced by this practice.

Cassiel Gaube is an associated artist at La Ménagerie de Verre in Paris, where Study Evening premiered on November 19, 2020, as part of the Les Inaccoutumés festival.
