Morning Ground, a work of searing simplicity and honesty, is Dawson's most intimate work to date. A "romantic reverie" for two couples. Dawson opens the floodgates of emotion, creating the movements that capture the imagination and send them soaring. Dawson's choreography reveals it's classical roots. A momentary arabesque quickly dissolves into something new and original, stereotypes are unpacked and re-invented. Solos, duets, and pas de deux follow the cascade of piano notes, brilliantly linking and intertwining unison and individual dance. There are no heroics, just a sensual warmth communicating between the couples. His duets match Chopin's music with dance possessed of a throbbing Romantic heart, full blooded and fabulous. The work has simplicity of shape and design finely balancing the depth of emotion.
