PASCAL TOUZEAU

Pascal Touzeau is an innovative choreographer who takes techniques from classical dance and blends them with contemporary dance. However without doubt his originality lies in his perfect mastery of the scenic space, first empty then in turmoil, continuously retaining a certain poetry.

After training in his home town of Bordeaux, then beginning his career with the Ballets in Bonn and Wiesbaden, Pascal Touzeau became Principal Soloist at the Frankfurt Ballet in 1992 under the direction of William Forsythe. He collaborated on several of his creations, including Eidos Teilos, Small Void, Four Point Counter and Alien/Action.

As a choreographer Pascal Touzeau has worked all over Europe, scheduled alongside major choreographers like Jiri Kylian, Ohad Naharin, George Balanchine, Nacho Duato and William Forsythe. His creations have been notably for the Karlsruhe Ballet: Some make some more (1998), Stings Empire, Stone Walk, The New Temperament (2000); for Stuttgart Ballet: Jupiter; for Göteborg Ballet: My Other Hand (2000); for the Ballet of the Opéra de Lyon: Final Lecture (2000); for Frankfurt Ballet: Verse Converse (2001); for the Ballet Victor Ullate: First Touch (2002) and lastly Heaven, Sky (2003) for Rotterdam Dance Works.

Between 2003 and 2005, Pascal Touzeau was resident choreographer at the Ballet Carmen Roche in Madrid where he created Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet in its entirety and The Nutcracker. These pieces have been performed in over thirty Spanish theatres, including Seville’s famous Maestranza, and will be on tour in Mexico City, Taiwan and Taipei. Pascal Touzeau is working as a freelance choreographer during the 2005/2006 season.
