Their success is global. The Design Museum in London has dedicated a retrospective to them, the Vitra Museum is preparing one now, Milan and New York love them, and the Salon du Meuble de Paris awarded them Nombre d’Or prize for their collaboration with the Italian manufacturer Edra. In just a few years, the Campana brothers – Fernando (born 1961) and Humberto (born 1953) – have become the new ambassadors of a Brazilian renaissance.
Everywhere they go, the two affable siblings fly the flag. Although most of their creations are made in Italy, they work in their Sao Paulo studio – a craftmanslike laboratory away from fashion – where they devote themselves to their passion for materials. «We are incapable of designing objects that have perfect forms. Our country is our inspiration: the urban chaos, the social mix, the favelas … We do our utmost to stay close to these realities.»
