Within the framework of its OUVERTURES, the National Ballet of Marseille presents :
4 & 5 OCTOBER 2013 - 20h30
AADHAARACHAKRA : A Dancelogue
Attakkalari Repertory Dance Company BANGALORE
AadhaaraChakra a Dancelogue is a hybrid performance event, weaving in multiple disciplines – movement, film, light, plastic arts, multimedia design and sound. Set in an imagined land this performance oscillates between the past and the present, inviting the audience to partake in a ritualised experience. In a complex and often fragmented narrative, the dancers embody characters from diverse Indian locales and periods. Memories and experiences fuel the choreography, transforming spaces ranging from crowded village markets to urban streets. Celluloid images accompany the sometimes-surreal visual journey. True to India’s syncretic traditions, this ‘performance event’ amalgamates a host of Indian imagery and movement languages.
Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts is India’s premier organization in the field of contemporary movement arts. Attakkalari’s Repertory company has evolved a unique movement language and is at the forefront of interdisciplinary works in India. The company tours widely in India and abroad. Attakkalari’s underlying philosophy – ‘Traditional Physical Wisdom, Innovation and Technology’ drives its many activities which include Education and Outreach programmes, a Diploma in Movement Arts and Mixed Media, Research and Documentation, the Attakkalari India Biennial and the Repertory Company. Additionally stage and performance solutions are offered by TransMedia Technologies – the technical division of Attakkalari. Artistic Director of Attakkalari Jayachandran Palazhy is at the forefront of the contemporary Indian movement arts scene and is the recipient of several awards. He has participated in numerous international artistic residencies, presented papers, directed FACETS - an international choreography laboratory and spearheaded pioneering research projects on the concepts of body and movement principles of Indian physical and performance traditions.
Produced by Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut/ MaxMueller Bhavan within the framework of “Germany and India 2011 – 2012 : Infinite Opportunities”.
