Formation, Destabilisation, Elevation, Evolution…
This piece poetically and mischievously tackles the history of classical dance and more specifically that of the pointe, the symbol of elevation.
Marie Taglioni and her Grand Pas de Quatre, the tutu, the classical technique and the male/female relationship throughout the history of ballet all provided inspiration for Jeroen Verbruggen in his conception of Pointless.
Pointless is presented as a succession of playlets, a romanticised and at times absurd exploration of the desire to achieve elevation.
A quest that, from the choreographer’s point of view, is pointless!
