After studying dance at the Conservatoire National de Région de Nice (winning its top prize in 1984) and at the Ecole de Danse Internationale de Cannes Rosella Hightower, Eric Oberdorff then joined the dance school of the Opéra de Paris before going on to dance with the Salzburg Landestheater Ballet, the Ballets de Monte-Carlo, the Zurich Opera Ballet, and then back with the Ballets de Monte-Carlo.

Meanwhile, he also studied acting and directing and continued to practise the martial arts he had taken up before dancing.

In parallel with his career as a dancer, Eric Oberdorff created his own choreographies and in autumn 2002 set up the Compagnie Humaine.

Eric Oberdorff left the Ballets de Monte-Carlo in September 2003 to concentrate fully on developing the Compagnie Humaine and his activities as a freelance choreographer.
