After completing his dance training, Thierry Malandain pursued his career with the Opéra de Paris, the Ballet du Rhin and then the Ballet de Nancy. The winner of several choreography prizes, he ended his dancing career and set up his own company, Temps Présent, in 1986.
He was appointed director of the Centre Chorégraphique National – Ballet Biarritz in 1998.
Thierry Malandain has created around sixty choreographies, many of which are included in the repertoire of other world-famous dance companies. He also creates works for opera houses.
Made a Chevalier dans l’ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 1999, Thierry Malandain was the artistic director of the Biarritz Dance Festival “Le Temps d’Aimer” between 2000 and 2004.
