L ’ETRANGER
16 May - Théâtre du Gymnase

L’ETRANGER
adapted from Albert Camus
Choreography Emio Greco | Pieter C. Scholten

16/05/2014 - THÉÂTRE DU GYMNASE (F) - 20h30

Very recently appointed artistic directors of the Ballet National de Marseille, Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten have chosen to meet Marseille audiences in the Théâtre du Gymnase.

On the bill is a solo inspired by Albert Camus’ celebrated novel “L’Etranger” that premiered in 2013 in the Théâtre du Jeu de Paume in Aix-en-Provence. Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten enjoy exploring works of literature and their adaptation of this legendary work – not in words, but in a choreographic language – was a challenge that these two creators were more than capable of meeting. For years their artistic approach has been about questioning the place of the body in society. It is a very physical work that uses the dancer’s energy and power, putting the spotlight on intuition and original freedom, without ignoring a very extensive work of documented information.

In this multimedia dance show, Emio Greco dances Albert Camus’ words with the strength of a committed body, in an enclosed and suffocating world, in the heat of a luminous and noisy Algeria in which a man demands his freedom and his right to be different.

“A perfect and very beautiful translation of Camus’ words.” La Provence

“A pure concentration of originality and sensibility and of that indignation that is so characteristic of Noble Prize winner Albert Camus.” La Marseillaise
