BNM’S NEW CREATIONS
Siegal / Eta & Endo

Back from tour, the BNM dancers are beginning rehearsals to prepare two new creations, which will be premiered in coproduction with the Festival de Marseille.

le Silo - as part of the 19th edition of the Festival de Marseille
METRIC DOZEN I Richard Siegal
TAMAGO I Leonard Eto & Yasuyuki Endo

This new programme is a dialogue between the American Richard Siegal’s finely-crafted dance and the swift style of Japanese choreographer Yasuyuki Endo, on the beat of Leonard Eto’s drums.

Richard Siegal has kept from his academic background an unconditional love for finely-crafted lines and powerful music. Once a solo dancer in William Forsythe’s company, he has kept his angular, flexible and nervous physicality, with an almost animal sensuality. In this creation for the Ballet National de Marseille he wishes “to work with the performers around relationships between them that have never been explored before, producing a genuine explosion of joy”.

A complete change comes with Tamago, from the Japanese choreographer Yasuyuki Endo and his accomplice Leonard Eto, one of the most innovative taiko – the traditional Japanese drum - players of his generation. On traditional or groovy rythms, their quartet, literally named “egg”, questions the mystery of life. Their motto is “never finish, keep on, start. Release a hurricane of primitive energy”.
